Resort Profile

Nestled in the peaceful Shenandoah Valley and bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and south and the majestic Massanutten Mountain Range to the west, Skyline Ranch Resort is only a 90-minute drive from the nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C. Near the resort, visitors can witness the inspiring scenery from the famous Skyline Drive; fish the Shenandoah River; visit the George Washington National Forest; and visit a variety of museums, battlefields, caverns, and other sites.

Shenandoah, a name famous in legend and song, is a Native American word meaning “daughter of the stars.” It’s a place renowned and beloved for glorious mountains, a spectacular valley, and some of the most beautiful scenery and relaxing spots in America. Outdoor activities take center stage here with hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, golf, and tennis at sites like the Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest.

Visit the world-famous Skyline Caverns, spreading in gigantic proportions underneath the valley floor. Hike the Appalachian Trail, canoe the Shenandoah River, or amble through the meadows on horseback. Golfers can enjoy a challenging round at one of Front Royal’s many fine golf courses.

While Front Royal is in the state’s Shenandoah region it’s also very close to the Northern Virginia region which has ties to both the Revolutionary and Civil War eras. Civil war sites and battlefields throughout the region bring the roar of the cannon to life for visitors. Among the best known are Manassas and Fredericksburg battlefields, which offer visitor exhibits and tours.
