Located in the Southern Heartland Vacation Region
of North Carolina just 70 miles southwest of Raleigh, Travel Resorts,
with its two-acre lake and bountiful amenities, rests among tall
pines in one of the most historical areas of the United States.
Campsites on this 194 acre resort are spread among towering pines.
The log cabin lodge was hand built in the early 1900s from
timber taken from the property. Each room in this 6,000 square foot
lodge has a hand-built fireplace. A fully-screened porch overlooks
the terraced gardens and the private lake that is kept well-stocked
with bass.
In this part of North Carolina you can play golf where royalty,
celebrities, and the privileged few have played since 1898... Pinehurst.
This charming village is known for its lush green golf courses with
more than 50 of them in a 20-mile radius of the Pinehurst-Southern
Pines area, including Donald Ross Pinehurst Number Two, ranked
among the top in the world.
The world Golf Hall of Fame is in Pinehurst, and offers visitors
such items of interest as clubs and photographs of the golf heads
of state, collections of golf artifacts, and the portraits of golf
legends who have been inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame.
About a mile south of nearby Southern Pines, youll find Weymouth
Woods-Sandhills Nature Preserve, 676 acres that include a nature
museum and hiking and nature study trails. Southern Pines is the
home of Weymouth Center, a state cultural center for the arts and
humanities. Southern Pines also has several homes of historical
note including the Shaw House, an antebellum plantation manor built
around 1840; the Garner House, built of logs circa 1770 and furnished
with original pieces; and the Britt/Sanders Cabin with its 125-year-old
restored loom. |
