Resort Profile

The thick pine forests, the pure air, the mineral waters at Abita Springs, and the many amenities at Abita Springs RV Resort assure its visitors an enjoyable vacation. The resort is aptly located in St. Tammany Parish, where the hubbub of interstate highways and city life has been transformed into scenic country roads and a relaxed atmosphere.

Slidell, to the east of the resort, is the industrial center of the Parish, but it is probably more famous for its Manufacturers Retail Outlet. Shoppers will want to allow some extra time to browse through the more than 70 stores in the shopping complex. To the west is Covington, a quaint town and recreational spot just 30 miles from New Orleans and about an hour’s drive from the Gulf Coast beaches. A drive through the countryside surrounding Covington will allow you to see some of the state’s finest quarter horse, Thoroughbred, and Arabian horse farms.

Those wanting to visit New Orleans and not drive around the perimeter of Lake Ponchartrain can get on the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway near the I-12 junction in Covington. The scenic 24-mile-long drive takes you across the lake on the longest over water highway bridge in the nation. With so many things to see in New Orleans, visitors will find it difficult to decide what to see first, but a good place to begin is the true heart of the city, the French Quarter. This historic area features iron-embroidered architectural treasures with gold and blue signs on the corner buildings that remind us of street names from an earlier period.

When you visit the heart of the French Quarter, stop at the equestrian bronze statue of Andrew Jackson and visit the Left Bank, where artists use the iron fence to display their creations. On the square’s northwestern side is one of the oldest and most photographed churches in the United States, St. Louis Cathedral. Built in 1794, the Spanish style cathedral was remodeled in 1851 to include steeples and a Greek Revival portico; it is still very much a part of today’s life in New Orleans.
