Resort Profile

In the Sportsman’s Paradise Region of Northern Louisiana, Shiloh Resort and the surrounding area offer a variety of activities for those who enjoy the great outdoors.

Just two miles from the resort, shoppers will want to spend the day at the Pecanland Mall, home of 90 stores, including several major department stores. Animal lovers of all ages will delight in visiting the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo in nearby Monroe. The 100-acre site has winding paths by moss-laden live oaks and the habitats of many exotic and rare animals. Surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens, the moated confines of more than 750 animals are featured.

Another popular attraction in Monroe is the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Home. Built in 1914 by Joseph Biedenharn, the first bottler of Coca-Cola, the furnishings include Coca-Cola memorabilia, china, crystal, and silver. On the grounds nearby, antiques, musical instruments, and a collection of rare books and historical Bibles can be seen in the nondenominational Bible Museum. A visit to the Biedenharn complex would not be complete without seeing the Elsong Gardens and Conservatory.

A visit to Monroe would not be complete without seeing the Masur Museum of Art. The two-story English Tudor home exhibits a collection of paintings, prints, photographs, and sculptures. Along with its permanent collection on display all year, the museum hosts several traveling exhibitions. If strolling on a college campus is on your agenda, be sure to travel just a few miles to the west to Ruston, home of Grambling State University and Louisiana Tech University.

June visitors to the area will want to take in the Louisiana Peach Festival, also in Ruston.
