Resort Profile

In an area rich in Native American and early United States history, White Oaks on the Lake sits on the banks of Lake Freeman with 1,500 feet of lake frontage. Here in the Twin Lakes area, Lake Freeman lies south of Monticello, while Lake Shafer lies to the north. The resort offers excellent water sports and other lake amenities like the Madam Carroll, Indiana’s largest inland water boat that offers cruises on Lake Freeman.

Up on Lake Shafer visitors will find the Indiana Beach Resort/Amusement Park, and discover a multitude of fun things to do; rides, miniature golf, shopping, swimming, sailing, and skiing on Lake Shafer. Climb aboard the Shafer Queen for a paddlewheel cruise, or catch the professional ski show at the Aqua Theatre. The Tippecanoe Battlefield and Historical Museum and Fort Quiatenon, established in 1717, and the site of the annual Feast of the Hunter’s Moon as well as the “Battle of Tippecanoe” outdoor drama, are only minutes away.

See where, on November 7, 1811, a dramatic battle was waged between William Henry Harrison’s troops and the Native American warriors led by Tecumseh’s brother, The Prophet. Today an 85-foot monument marks the site of Harrison’s encampment. The museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, presents the historic battle from both points of view.

In Lafayette, just a short drive southwest from the resort, visitors can enjoy a day at the Columbian Park and Zoo. You’ll see snow leopards, lemurs, and the American bald eagle. There’s also an amusement park with its many rides, a 65-foot water slide, and one of the largest swimming pools in Indiana.

In West Lafayette, visit the Indiana State Museum’s Commandant’s Residence Historic Site. Once called “The White House of the Wabash,” this restored 1899 mansion housed the commandant and the state’s soldiers after the Civil War.
