| Ghost Mountain, in Pollock Pines, California,
is a beautiful, natural campground surrounded on three sides by
the El Dorado National Forest. If you want to visit a quiet and
secluded resort, this is the place. It’s only three miles
off U.S. Hwy. 50 but has a true wilderness atmosphere.
Ghost Mountain is a full-service resort with RV spots, tent camping,
cabins, and activities. The 325-acre park is perfect for hikers
and mountain bikers who would like to explore the natural forest
setting. There is also an Old West ghost town that helps set the
Western atmosphere of the resort.
The resort features a variety of attractions, activities, and amenities
during the summer peak season. There are horseback trails, pony
rides, and children’s activities every weekend. The swimming
pool, game room, and Gatehouse Theatre are open daily. Kokopelli’s
Bar and Grill, in the ghost town, is open each weekend of the year
and is host to a variety of annual parties and events such as the
4th of July chili cook-off and Western Days in August.
During the winter months, the resort becomes beautifully calm and
serene as we enjoy the weather patterns at 3,700-feet elevation
in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Ghost Mountain gets its share of
snow in the winter, but is usually melts quickly and road remains
passable at all times.
The Mother Load area surrounding Ghost Mountain is full of interesting
sights and destinations. Coloma State Park, only 25 miles away,
is the site of James Marshall’s gold discovery that ignited
the California Gold Rush. World-famous Lake Tahoe is only an hour
away if you’re looking for nightlife or world-class snow skiing.
The Apple Hill area in nearby Camino is bustling every fall, selling
a large variety of locally produced agricultural products. |
