Resort Profile

Located on the banks of beautiful Weiss Lake, Leesburg Resort has an abundance of activities for the sportsman, those interested in history, sightseers, nature and wildlife enthusiasts, and guests just wanting a relaxing vacation. Nearby Noccalula Falls Park, near Gadsden, is where creek waters plummet 95 feet from a limestone ledge. It is also the site of the legend of the Indian princess who, after her lover’s death, hurled herself from the heights into the river below. Other features of the park include a covered bridge, War Memorial and Museum, pioneer village of split-log buildings, a botanical garden, and nature and hiking trails.

If you need a reason to get off the interstate and onto some of the smaller highways, bargain hunters will want to attend the World’s Longest Yard Sale, held the third weekend in August in year. The sale begins at Noccalula Falls Park and continues north all the way to Cincinnati, Ohio. Vendors’ booths lined up along the road offer treasures like antiques, arts and crafts, quilts, pots and pans, and china.
Shoppers will enjoy the Boaz Shopper’s Paradise year-round, where there are over 140 stores featuring off-price and discount sales.

Fort Payne, to the north, has interesting geological formations and Indian history. In the late 19th-century, the town was formed around the stockade which held the Cherokees before they were forced westward on the Trail of Tears. Beautiful scenery abounds in one of the deepest canyons east of the Mississippi, 600-foot Little River Canyon, in the DeSoto State Park near Fort Payne. The Lookout Mountain range runs through the park and the Lookout Mountain Trail follows the rim for 20 miles. DeSoto Falls and hiking and nature trails are also a part of the park.
