More Info The small town of Ehrenberg and surrounding area offer still more diverse activities, including speedboat racing, off-road excursions, and golf. Local gold and gem mines are also popular. Some of the most fascinating sights and insights are to be found across the state border, about 15 miles north of Blythe, CA. There, the Blythe Intaglios, gigantic figures skillfully etched in the earth hundreds of years ago, stand testament to the ingenuity and mystery of ancient cultures. The only Intaglios that are known to exist in North America are the ones found in the deserts of Arizona and California. The Blythe Chamber of Commerce can provide additional information and locations for Intaglios. Blythe, Ehrenberg, and nearby Quartzite host many events, including annual favorites such as the Colorado River Country Music Festival (January), which is the second largest bluegrass festival in the Western United States; the Duel-in-the-Desert Bull Riding Competition (October); and the Main Event Mineral and Gem Show (January-February), which is the highlight for many of the over one million visitors who journey to this remote area each year.
